The story is narrated by R (played by Nicholas Hoult), a zombie who spends his days wandering an abandoned airport. Unlike his peers, R is introspective and can barely remember his name. Everything changes when he encounters Julie (Teresa Palmer). After consuming her boyfriend's brains—and inheriting his memories—R feels an intense need to protect her.
