I chose to install these additional tools to get a more comprehensive experience.
- Named User: Autodesk has fully transitioned to the "Flex" or "Named User" model. You no longer hunt for serial numbers in the installer. You simply sign in to your Autodesk ID.
- Network Licensing: For shops using the newer Flex token system or legacy network licenses, the installation requires the NLM (Network License Manager) to be set up before launching the software. The PowerMill installer allows you to point to a server easily, but if the server isn't configured right, the software installs but refuses to open.
- Post-Install Licensing: Once installed, the software "phones home" to verify entitlement. This is usually seamless, but if you are behind a strict corporate firewall, you may need to whitelist specific Autodesk domains, or the software will launch in "Viewer Mode" only.
