1. The Absolute Beginner

If you have never held a stylus to a tablet, paying $900 is insane. Core Mini removes the anxiety of UI overload. You download it, you pick a sphere, and you start pushing clay. It is the "GarageBand" of 3D sculpting. ZBrushCoreMini is a streamlined, free version of Pixologic's

  1. Get a Tablet. You can use a mouse, but it is like painting with a brick. A cheap One by Wacom or Huion tablet changes everything.
  2. Use the "H" key. Hold H to activate the Smooth brush. Release to go back to sculpting. This is your new best friend.
  3. Flip the Y Axis. Go into Preferences and invert the Y axis for the camera rotation. The default "ball" rotation drives many people crazy.
  4. Don't make a human first. Start with an apple, then a potato, then a cartoon fish. Master the Core Brush before worrying about facial proportions.
  5. Save locally. Core Mini saves to your hard drive, not the cloud. Make backups!
