The primary benefit of using Luminar Neo Extensions is the streamlined workflow. By keeping your HDR merging, noise reduction, and upscaling within a single interface, you maintain a non-destructive editing path. This means you can go back and tweak your base edits even after applying complex extension effects. luminar neo extensions

8. Limitations & gaps
- Limited public plugin API — prevents deep third-party algorithmic extensions inside Neo.
- Dependency on Skylum’s AI modules — some advanced effects require licensed modules that may be sold separately.
- Platform parity — some features or GPU optimizations may vary between Windows and macOS.
- Tethering and camera-support limitations — not as mature as dedicated tethering apps.
: Reduces the need to jump between multiple standalone apps.
Limitations & Considerations
- No free tier — each extension is a paid upgrade, though Skylum sometimes bundles several into “Extension Packs.”
- Performance — HDR Merge and Focus Stacking can be slow on large RAW files (8-15 seconds per merge on a mid-range PC).
- Not truly modular — You cannot uninstall individual extensions easily; they are managed via the Marketplace.
- Catalog-only features — Some extensions (like Upscale AI) work best in the Catalog module for batch processing.
