1. Back up all projects using the EPLAN Backup tool (creates an .elk file).
2. Install EPLAN 2024 on a separate machine (side-by-side installation is not possible due to SQL conflicts).
3. Use the Migration Wizard in EPLAN 2024 to open the .elk file. Versions 2.9 → 2024 involve a schema upgrade (parts database, plot frames, and DXF export macros will need manual rework).
4. Do not try to open an EPLAN 2024 project in 2.9—it will permanently corrupt the project.
