4. Estimating a Job (Step-by-step)

1. New Estimate → enter customer info (name, phone, address).
2. Project details: title, job date, notes.
3. Surface areas: manually enter areas or use measurement tool. For rooms, enter length × width × height per wall/ceiling.
4. Surface prep: add items—cleaning, sanding, patching—with unit costs and times.
5. Select product(s): choose primer/topcoat, sheen, color. Assign coats (primer/topcoat coats).
6. Coverage calc: the app computes quantity = (area × coats) / coverage per unit. Adjust for waste % (default 10%).
7. Add labor: default labor rates can be set in Settings → Labor Rates; add hours or use productivity presets (e.g., sq ft/hr).
8. Taxes & fees: add local tax rate and disposal fees if applicable.
9. Review estimate: line-item totals, subtotal, taxes, profit margin. Apply markup or fixed profit.
10. Save/Print/Send: Export to PDF, print job ticket, or email estimate directly to customer.
