Technical Paper: Analysis of "AutoCAD 2010 Portable" – Feasibility, Architecture, and Risks

Abstract

The term "AutoCAD 2010 Portable" refers to unauthorized, modified versions of Autodesk AutoCAD 2010 engineered to run from removable media (USB drives) without formal installation into the Windows registry or system folders. This paper analyzes the technical modifications required to create such a portable version, the runtime dependencies, registry virtualization methods, performance limitations compared to a standard installation, and the legal and security risks. Findings indicate that while technically feasible using application virtualization or repackaging, the portable version suffers from significant functionality degradation, stability issues, and violation of Autodesk’s End User License Agreement (EULA).
