Step 2: Extract and Install
- Extract the downloaded ZIP file.
- Do not run an installer if you see one (older versions used a simple
.exe; newer ones require manual install). - Plug in the Alfa adapter.
- Open Device Manager (Right-click Start button).
- Look for "Other devices" or a yellow exclamation mark next to "RTL8188RU" or "Alfa Network."
- Right-click it > Update driver > Browse my computer for drivers.
- Click Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
- Click Have Disk > Browse.
- Navigate to the extracted folder. Look for a file named
netrtwlanu.inf(orrtl8188ru.inf). Select it. - Select the "Alfa AWUS036NHR" model from the list and click Next.
- Ignore the "Windows can't verify the publisher" warning. Click Install anyway.
